Excellence Awards

The Maine Chapter of the American Public Works Association uses the Excellence Award to recognize the efforts of municipal Public Works Departments. This award was established to promote excellence in the management, administration, and implementation of public works projects by recognizing the efforts of the public agency and, potentially, the consultant/architect/engineer, and the contractor who work together to complete the public works project.

Award categories are:

  • Category A – Projects from communities with 20 or more public works employees
  • Category B – Projects from communities with between 5 to 20 public works employees
  • Category C – Projects from small municipalities with less than 5 employees

Each category will be broken down by municipalities completing the entire project themselves and those using consultants/contractors.

More information about the award and how to nominate a Public Works Department can be found in this document. 2023 Excellence Award Projects

Leader of the Year Award

The Maine Chapter of the American Public Works Association’s Public Works Leader of the Year program seeks to inspire excellence and dedication in public service by recognizing the outstanding career service achievements of individual public works professionals and officials. The primary focus of the award is on career service to the public works profession rather than on any one single event or project.
